The Aran islands, 14 miles west of Galway, is made up of three main islands: Inis Mór, Inis Meáin and Inis Oírr. Inis Oírr is the smallest of the three with a population of 300 and an area of around 4 square miles.

Inis Oírr is well-served by air and sea links, from Inverin airport in Connemara (a 10-minute flight), from Rossaveal ferryport in Connemara (65 minutes) and Doolin ferryport in County Clare (25 minutes).
